What are VOC’s – Volatile Organic Compounds?
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are emitted as gases from certain solids or liquids. VOCs include a variety of chemicals, some of which may have short and long-term adverse health effects. Most water-based paints contain low to no VOC’s,whereas oil-based points generally have a higher VOC content. VOC’s can be particularly harmful to people who suffer from asthma or other breathing related difficulties.

What is the difference between water based and oil based paints?
When discussing whether a paint is water or oil based, we are talking about the solvent that is used, which is the liquid component that evaporates as the paint dries. Water-based paints are non-yellowing, non-flammable, low-odour and have reduced VOC’S. Oil-based paints contain flammable solvents, strong odour, are more impact resistant and contain higher levels of VOC’s. Both types have their merits depending on intended use.

I am looking to paint pine wood in my home, what should I do?
When painting pine, or any wood with a large amount of knots, we recommend using Multistop, our blocking primer which is guaranteed to stop knots from bleeding through. We then recommend to topcoat with Helmi to deliver the best possible finish.

What can I use to block a stain on my ceiling/wall?
Akrostop, our special stain-blocking primer is ideal for covering and suffocating any stains on your walls or ceilings prior to painting.

What can I use to fill a crack/holes in my wall?
We recommend using Flex-e-Fill when repairing and filling small cracks on your walls or ceilings. When filling in larger holes or bigger gaps in interior walls, we advise using Hole-in-One. All repair fillers should be applied in multiple coats over the space of a few hours and levelled off with sand paper before priming and painting.
